The Flying Geese basket is designed by Dianne Gleixner from Brookfield, WI. The skills you will
learn when weaving this basket are triple twining, twill pattern, and shaping the basket.
The basket pictured has maroon, navy, and blue accent rows. Participants will select 3 colors for
accent rows during class.
Basket dimensions are approximately 6” x 9” x 6” high.
Dianne Gleixner has given her permission for me to teach this pattern.
Hi I’m Marcy Blikre. This passion of basket weaving had a simple beginning – I signed up for basket
weaving classes through Moorhead (MN) Community Education. Little did I know it would become
more than a simple pastime! I have been weaving for over fifteen years and belong to the
Headwaters Basketmakers Guild (Bemidji, MN) and the National Basketry Organization. I attend a
number of workshops each year to learn various weaving techniques and to get new ideas from the
teachers and fellow weavers. As a retired educator, I love to teach basket weaving to those
interested in this lost art form. A useful basket is one of beauty and purpose.
I am drawn to weaving utilitarian style baskets using flat or round reed but will also use natural
materials such as willow and birch bark. Baskets may have a similar beginning, but each is
distinctive in size, style, color, and presentation. Selecting a basket is a personal choice, how one
uses it depends upon one’s needs.
